Jarrow Formulas' Ginko Biloba products begins with fresh Greenwave plantation cultivated Ginko Biloba leaves. The extraction process is standardized at 24% ginkoflavonglycosides (or heterosides) and 6 % terpene lactones, and is the richest source of the terpene Ginkolides A & B, the most desired fractions. Greenwave argricultural technology produces leaves richer and more potent in ginkolide B (most important compentent of Ginko). No extraction technology can compensate for inferior plant material. Much of the original European research on Ginko Biloba extract used Greenwave leaves.
Ginko for the prevention of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)
In a recent study, volunteers who lived at 1400m (4,597 ft) were taken rapidly to 4300m (14,110 ft) and spent the night (9513 ft elevation gain). Compared to those taking placebo, subjects taking ginko had half the incidence of AMS symptoms, and those on ginko who did become ill had far milder symptoms.
Conclusion: 120 mg ginko biloba taken orally twice a day, starting 5 days prior to the ascent, and continuing at altitude is effective at preventing AMS symptoms.
