Victory Nutrition Clean Food Policy

Victory Nutrition stocks only "CLEAN" energy foods. We will not knowingly sell any food that may contain a harmful ingredient. We simply feel wholesome real foods are the healthy and safe choice.

Below is an evolving list of food ingredients or food additives that we feel do not belong in the foods we eat. Many popular "health" foods contain these food additives, especially in the sports nutrition market. Rest assured we will not sell any product containing these needless and undesirable food elements. You may notice we have a higher standard than most sports nutrition retailers.

Our list of banned substances:

Acesulfame-K or Acesulfame-Potassium

Acesulfame-K is an artificial sweetener that is popular in protein powders, low-carb baked goods and soft drinks. The FDA allowed increase use even with unresolved safety issues, including concerns raised by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Aspartame

Also known as Equal and NutraSweet. Independent tests have not confirmed the safety of this artificial sweetener.

Artificial Coloring

We see artificial colors as totally unnecessary and added to food simply for aesthetic reasons. These man-made chemicals do not occur in nature which makes us even more suspicious.

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

An inexpensive sweetener made from corn syrup used in candy bars and soft drinks. The jury is still out on this one so you won't find it on our shelves.

Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil

Healthy vegetable oils are hydrogenated to make them solid at room temperature. This increases the levels of unhealthy saturated fats and creates trans fats, both of which promote cardiovascular disease.

Sodium Nitrate, Sodium Nitrite

Used mainly as a preservative in meats, sodium nitrate in food can create nitrosamines which are cancer causing. We offer wild salmon and jerky which are free of nitrates.

Sugar Alcohols

Maltitol, mannitol, sorbitol, and xylitol are some of the sugar alcohols used in low-carb foods as a sweetener. They are not tolerated well in large quantites and have little nutritional value. There is some unresolved safety issues so we are staying away from sugar alcohols. Why not use nutritious real food ingredients anyway?
